The variety and overall quality of cupcakes at Cupcake Camp Auckland was fantastic. One category had everything from cupcakes with the ingredient of Wattie’s baked beans and tomatoes, beetroot, and kumara – no it was not the best use of a vegetable category, but the unique ingredient category. And, let me tell you each of these cupcakes were yummo!
Many thanks to Kate Robinson for the fantastic photos from the day. Check out her blog for more pictures.
Their were cupcakes that were an utter visual feast and cupcakes for the chocolate lover as well as other more exquisite flavors. Here are the winners:
Best Kiwi Inspired WINNER: Kiwiana Pavolicious (Danielle C.) ; 2ND PLACE: Custard Squares (Jayne O.)
Best Unique Ingredient WINNER: Winter Warmth (Jayne O.) ; 2ND PLACE: Beetroot & Velrhona Chocolate (Maggie B.)
Best in Show WINNER: Caramel Honeycup (Danielle C.) ; 2ND PLACE: Red Velvet with Lemon Cream Cheese (Maggie B.)
As with Christchurch, their were a few bakers that really dominated the competition, showing that their cupcake baking talent is truly consistent. But, their was a huge majority of the bakers that were just short of being in the winner’s circle, maybe next time.
I’ve got a few ideas milling around as to what next for Cupcake Camp, but I’d be keen to hear your thoughts. I’ll be asking for your feedback sometime soon. If you’d like to be part of another event or have suggestions for the future, I’d love to hear them. As for where to next, where would you like to see the next Cupcake Camp? Let me know in the comments.
Thank you once again for all of you that attended
